Temple Fork Outfitters: Gary Loomis
May 20th, 2010 / Rods & Reels
How many fishermen have owned or at least tried a G-Loomis rod? Probably hundreds of thousands right? I would put my money on that 99% of them love the rod; how it sits in your hand, how light they are, the great warranty offered and the overall confidence that you have when you are fishing with one of the best rods in the world!
After selling his line of rods to Shimano back in 1997, Gary Loomis has now exploded back into the fishing industry with a new line of rods he has created with Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO). If you are unaware, Temple Fork Outfitters has been offering great quality Fly rods at a fair market price for decades and after teaming up with Gary Loomis, they have entered the conventional rod market with what has been rated the best rod for 2010.
Excited to work with Gary Loomis, TFO has introduced their first line of many rods to come, in both spinning and casting. If you haven’t had the opportunity to handle one of these rods, run to your local retailer and try one out, you will not be disappointed! Every rod made is very light and is balanced almost perfectly. There are 6 foot, 6.6, 7 and 7.6 foot rods available and each rod has a lifetime limited warranty.
What you’ll find with these new Temple Fork rods, is how different they are from other rods on the market, even G-Loomis rods. Applying the wisdom of Gary Loomis by fitting each rod with the best guide size and guide placement, you are getting a lifetime of experience rod building in every rod.
Also, integrated into each rod is a color coding system that helps us as fisherman save time from fumbling around trying to figure out what rod is what length. Each skeleton blank section is uniquely color coded for ease of use. There are 6 colors, which are coded by the action of rod.
Having a brief opportunity to handle and test these rods, I found that this rod was comfortable and light enough that you could throw it all day long in a tournament or even just on the weekend, casually. They all have nice soft tips for great sensitivity and solid back bone for a strong hook set. The best part of all, the value in which you are getting is that much greater than most. Retailing for approximately $100 per rod, currently there isn’t a rod on the market that can touch the value and fair market price that Temple Fork Outfitters offers.
